UFI

Yes, it's an unidentified flying insect! Someone on the A4A forum thinks it might be some kind of wood wasp which to my relief does not sting. It was a beautiful creature whatever it was.
No gardening to speak of today just a bit of pottering and tidying up. Lovely sunny afternoon though.

It's fun to see insects that you don't recognise, which in my case is most of them!
I was plotting all morning and it was good to see lots of honey bees around. Just wish I could have gone back after lunch as well! xx

I'm useless at identifying insects. I saw a yellow butterfly at the allotment yesterday, but I don't know what kind it was.

Jo, I think the yellow butterfly is likely to be a male brimstone. I'm trning into a bit of a butterfly anorak these days. ;)

Flighty I'm the same. I'm getting a little bit better for instance I recognised a Rosemary Beetle today. But there are far more insects in the garden I can't put a name to than those I can identify.

There was a second vote for a wood wasp today, also known as a horntail. The botanical name is Urocerus gigas.

I googled the Yellow Brimstone and yes, it did look like that.

You clever thing!
